Open Standards
At Synclude, we have committed to use Open Standards, whether in our ICT Services or our intranet and Internet development. This choice is based on our experience in the fields of application development and ICT integration, in response to problems related to proprietary software.
What is wrong with proprietary solutions
Information Systems have a tendency to outgrow their original specifications and end up being used for other purposes than those originally intended. These systems require maintenance and updates. All too often, independent software vendors (ISVs) tie their users into proprietary solutions which do not offer the flexibility needed, or make this flexibility an expensive option.
For us, this is not an acceptable policy. Thus, we provide only Open Standards solutions.
What Open Standards mean to you
An information system or application is a long-term investment, not an ad-hoc solution. For this reason, we deliver our products and systems fully documented, including source code. This gives you full freedom regarding support and upgrade paths.
Synclude delivers Open Standards solutions that are:
- Reliable and Secure
- Scalable
- Interoperable
- Independent of a software vendor
- Future-proof
- Reducing your TCO: Low maintenance coupled with zero license costs
What we mean by Open Standards
The best way to understand what we mean is to look at the technology that we use. There are several technical levels on which we find Open Standards of benefit:
- Operating System level
- Application level
- Development Platform level
- Communication level
Operating System level
Open Standards at the Operating System level mean well-defined standards, proven and stable solutions. For these reasons, Synclude focuses on UNIX, with a preference for Open Source platforms such as Linux and OpenBSD. We help you choose the system most adapted to your needs while reducing application/Operating System interdependency for maximum freedom.
Application Level
For Synclude, Open Source Software (OSS) constitutes the basic building blocks of our offer: Indeed, OSS follows industry standards and guidelines while providing secure solutions through peer-review of the source code. We construct your ICT infrastructure using these proven and reliable OSS solutions (such as the Apache web server, or the Squid cache), integrating them with your legacy systems.
Development Platform Level
We focus on well-defined languages (including Java, PHP, Perl and Python) and runtime environments (such as Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Zope).
Communication level
Our focus on Open Standards ensures the smoother interfacing, integration, and reuse of our software components with Third-party technologies (such as the use of XML and JDBC).
