eAIPDiff: Automated Amendment Mark-up
eAIPDiff™ is a stand-alone software tool which identifies the changes between 2 eAIP documents. It allows eAIP editors to concentrate on their Amendments without worrying about the technicalities of XML eAIP Amendment mark-up.
Safety in eAIP Amendment
EUROCONTROL recommends the use of automated methods for Amendment mark-up. This is because manual Amendment mark-up is tedious and error-prone. It is too easy to forget marking-up a small change, to mark only a part of a change, or to associate a change to the wrong Amendment element. Worse yet, these editing mistakes can easily pass unnoticed in the published AIP. eAIPDiff ensures that all changes are marked-up, and that they are marked-up correctly.

How it works
eAIPDiff takes 2 eAIP documents in XML format and compares them. Any difference (i.e. amendment) is marked-up using the eAIP Amendment guidelines published by EUROCONTROL. At the end, eAIPDiff generates a full copy of the latest eAIP, where each change is identified and linked to the latest Amendment element.
For example, if a few words have been inserted in the latest Amendment, these words will be marked-up as follows:

In this example, "AMDT-xxx" is the id of the relevant Amendment element and "n1234" is automatically generated by eAIPDiff and guaranteed to be unique in the eAIP.
Integration
eAIPDiff can be easily integrated into other java-based software. Synclude provides an API, fully documented (in the convenient and well-known Javadoc format). For more specific needs, the source code is available as an option.
eAIPDiff is integrated into GroupVerve AIS, Synclude's AIS document management product.
Technical Requirements
- Hardware:
- 128MB memory for a small AIP (~500 pages)
- 256MB memory for a medium-size AIP (~1000 pages)
- 512MB memory for a larger AIP
- Pentium III CPU (Pentium 4 recommended for a large AIP) or equivalent
- Software:
- Java runtime environment: 1.4.2 or above
- Operating system: any one supporting Java, such as Linux, Apple® Mac OS® and the Microsoft® Windows family.
