GroupVerve: Collaborative Document Production System

GroupVerve™ is an innovative Web-based software facilitating the collaborative production, edition and publication of business-critical documents in XML format.

Main Features:

• Collaborative edition: several document authors can work at the same time on the same documents, without risk of losing data. Collaborative workflow facilitates communication and information sharing by centralizing necessary information where the editors need it;
• Versioning system: keep past publications available. Base new versions of a document on any past versions;
• Versions comparison: visualize changes between versions;
• Quality Control: approve individual changes, review all changes before document publication;
• Traceability: keep track of all creations and modifications made by users;
• Automatic production: document-specific production rules allow automatic production of a document in various formats, such as HTML and PDF.

XML Documents Repository

GroupVerve stores documents in its central repository, making them available both from a local network and from the Internet if needed. Documents are stored in XML format and can be edited on a user's workstation using any XML editor.

Storing documents in XML format enables separation of content edition from presentation and publication. GroupVerve leverages on this separation by automating the publication process: your editors are no longer concerned by the cosmetic impact of the changes they are introducing in the document. Publication becomes as easy as clicking one button: the documents are published in the desired formats, such as HTML for the Web and PDF or PostScript for print.

Open Standards

GroupVerve complies with the following Open Standards:

• Document publication: XML, DTD, W3C XML Schema, Schematron, XSLT, XHTML, HTML, CSS, XSL-FO, PDF
• Repository: CMS, Versioning, ACL
• Interfaces: Web-based user interface, WebDAV access, SOAP server
• Server: cross-platform Java-based, Tomcat, Apache

Server-side:

• Hardware:
  • Pentium Xeon processor (GroupVerve takes advantage of multi-processor systems)
  • 1GB memory (depending on documents size)
  • Fast hard disks, such as SCSI U-160
• Software:
  • GNU/Linux Operating System (any server distribution with kernel 2.4)
  • Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.2 or later
  • Apache HTTP Server 2.x
  • Apache Tomcat 4.1.x
  • An XSL-FO rendering software (Apache FOP or RenderX XEP 3.x)

Client-side:

• Hardware:
  • A recent processor, such as Pentium III, Celeron or G3
  • 256MB memory (depending on documents size; Windows XP users: add 64MB)
• Software:
  • Any recent operating system such as Linux, MacOS, Windows, etc. (support for WebDAV protocol eases edition process)
  • Any XML editor
  • Any recent Web browser such as Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, Internet Explorer 5+.
